Business Challenges

When Jade Global performed an initial IT environment assessment, Bloom Energy was carrying multiple business applications hosted on several different platforms. The problem was often one that many large companies the size of Bloom face; there were too many disjointed applications which no longer met business needs and needed to be replaced. Bloom employees were bogged down with navigating an inefficient and disjointed process, taking time away from their more important core duties. In addition, multiple customizations within Bloom’s existing EBS footprint were becoming too difficult to maintain. The process of navigating a complex EBS system made it prone to errors.

Another challenge with Bloom’s current footprint was that some functionalities required real-time integration between custom applications and Oracle Cloud. When two applications do not synchronize automatically, it takes valuable time away from employees tasked with undertaking the issue. This synchronization could otherwise be solved without human intervention by using applications that extend with Oracle Cloud. When systems run separately like they did for Bloom Energy, processes which are meant to ensure a company runs smoothly become more complex than necessary. In this case, overall reporting became a challenge due to disparate systems and data elements. Because its systems were separate, Bloom required extra steps to run a simple report. Bloom lacked a single source of information containing real-time, accurate data to share with management staff and key decision makers.

The Solution: Oracle Cloud SaaS and PaaS Applications*

Jade Global began the project by designing an implementation roadmap for Oracle Cloud services to be deployed at Bloom (Financials, Supply Chain, EPM and a PAAS platform). With a two-phase implementation of Oracle Cloud SaaS and PaaS Applications, each service is being mapped with specific Oracle release cycles. The first wave of implementations includes Oracle Financials, Procurement, Self Service Procurement, Supply Chain, and Enterprise Performance Management (EPM). In wave two, Jade is implementing Oracle Demand Planning, Sales and Operational Planning, Install Base/Service Contracts, Enterprise Access Management, and Enterprise Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service (EPBCS).

Jade’s experts are developing Oracle Platform as a Service (PaaS) solutions to work in Bloom’s environment to integrate data, processes, and apps, and migrate and manage workloads. The PaaS solutions being deployed are Java Cloud Service, Database Cloud Service, and Data Visualization Cloud Service (DVCS) for all of Bloom’s “must have” customizations. Jade is using Oracle SOA Suite for integrations. SOA Cloud Service provides an integration platform as a service (iPaaS). It enables Bloom to quickly provision its new platform, develop and deploy its APIs and integration projects. SOA also provides real-time analytics to Bloom’s business leaders.

Furthermore, Jade is enabling Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence (OTBI) to provide real-time insight into business processes. OTBI is a robust and easy to use, real-time analysis tool. Instead of exposing the complexity of data structure to Bloom’s business users, OTBI organizez reportable data objects into functional subject areas that business users can easily relate to. Users simply drag and drop data from functional subject areas and use different graphical views to interactively explore or visualize data. Combined with Oracle Financial Reporting Studio (FR Studio) and custom reporting, Bloom’s financial data is being reduced into simple and easy to manage reports in a variety of formats that different business leaders and the financial department can quickly obtain to get vital financial information.

Jade Global is migrating years of Bloom Energy’s historic master and transactional data from Oracle E-Business Suite to the Cloud.

End-user Training, Change Management and Long-Term Support

As part of Jade Global’s Cloud implementation approach, Jade is providing user training and change management assistance to Bloom Energy’s end users. No matter how valuable the technology, it’s useless if staff isn’t properly trained on how to use it. Jade is providing change management planning to ensure staff at Bloom have a positive experience transitioning to a new technology platform. Jade assigned a specialist on-site to work with Bloom’s team. The process involves identifying and creating a comprehensive plan that incorporates everything from IT training, executive technology briefings, end-user training and communication protocol. As with all its customers, Jade is providing continued long-term sustaining support in the Cloud following the implementation.
