Oracle Apex: An alternative to Oracle EBS for Order & Customer Management

Introduction

The client is a multinational company manufacturing customized logo products for businesses. The company offers a variety of promotional pens, stationery items, and several business products with customized logo. It uses Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) application to operate and manage its business.

Current Process

Oracle EBS Platform has multiple offerings and is perfect for medium to large enterprises. It provides high efficiency by utilizing Oracle databases and a customizable back office. The Oracle EBS Application is developed using Oracle Forms. The client makes use of the EBS application structure for Order Management and Customer Management. However, as an enterprise, there are several hurdles they must face to effectively use this process –

  • In Oracle EBS Application, each user must have a license to access the system. This License fee is quite high, and it impacts the overall costing.
  • The EBS tool Requires a specific java version to access the application and any changes/updates need to be carefully handled since there’s a risk of breaking the established system with the new updates.
  • The EBS system’s GUI is not straight forward; one must jump through a lot of hoops to achieve the desired result, thereby making the overall process non-user friendly.
  • Needless to say, to guide through such a complex structure, an intense functional and technical training is required for agents for system operations.
  • Deployment and customization in any of the EBS interfaces require a lot of effort and coordination between various departments and the IT developers.

Business Requirement

  • Create an Application that would serve as an alternative to Oracle EBS Application for Oracle Order Management and Customer Management, one that is cost-effective and easy to use.
  • The application should be easy to change/upgrade as needed and be equipped with a better GUI, keeping with the modern-day technology’s look-and-feel.
  • Agents should be able to choose products based on item specifications like color, size, etc.
  • As customer deals with products with customized logo and imprints, the ability to select/enter logos and imprints is required at the time of order entry.
  • The user-friendly facility required to apply discounts, discount coupons at the time of order entry.
